Abstract This Law, consisting of 23 articles divided into 5 Chapters, provides for Animal Health protection within the State of Paraiba. This State Law establishes standards for the protection of animals in the state, seeking to reconcile the socio-economic development with environmental preservation in accordance with art. 32 of Law No. 9.605 of 12 February 1998. It prohibits the practice of mistreatment of animals and establishes that any actions resulting from carelessness or voluntary and intentional act, which undermines domestic, urban, native or exotic animal welfare and health is strictly prohibited in the State.
