Abstract

This Law, consisting of 10 articles, rules on access-to-information available in the bodies composing the National System for Environment (Sisnama). Such bodies are compelled to allow public access to documents and administrative processes regarding environmental issues and to provide all environmental information available. The Law lists the main topics subject to this requirement, such as, for instance: environmental quality; policies and programmes producing environmental impacts; results of pollution monitoring and control activities; accidents or emergencies affecting the environment; liquid and gas effluents’ emissions; and biological diversity. The Law requires that all bodies composing Sisnama shall prepare and disseminate annual reports on all environmental parameters concerned.
