Abstract This Law, consisting of 4 articles, establishes a Programme for Management and Protection of Species "Arapaima" within the State of Mato Grosso. It provides for protection measures for Arapaima species, through concrete, preventive and repressive actions with the participation of government and civil society organizations. It establishes the implementation of actions that address the protection of the environment; creating a financial and technical incentive programme aimed at breeding the Arapaima species in captivity in order to relieve pressure from fishing; to manage the sustainable exploitation of Arapaima species in captivity, such as food supply, employment, income and leisure, ensuring the sustainable use of water resources and the optimization of economic benefits with the preservation and conservation of environment and biodiversity and the economic development.
