Abstract

Section 3 defines kinds of land holding tenancies, i.e., tenancy for years, a tenancy from year to year, a tenancy for less than a year, a tenancy at will and a tenancy on sufferance. The tenancies defined in section 3 comprise the relationships between landlord and tenant in Belize and, subject to this Act, have the same qualities and incidents as they would have under the common law of England. The Act defines various matters in the (contractual) relationship between landlord and tenant such as applying general contract law to govern capacity to enter into tenancies, mode of entering into, and form of, leases, lateral duties and obligations, procedure for recovering rent, distress, ejectment, etc.
