Abstract

This Act approves the Lake Eyre Basin Intergovernmental Agreement between the Commonwealth of Australia, the State of Queensland and the State of South Australia and the Northern Territory (the last as joined the Agreement on 19 May 2005). The Agreement is related to the management of water and other natural resources in the Lake Eyre basin with a view at avoiding or eliminating adverse cross-border impacts. The Agreement sets guiding principles for carrying out activities in the basin and constitutes and regulates the Ministerial Forum as the institutional infrastructure for the implementation of the Agreement.
