Additionally, the government shall appoint a Forest Settlement Officer who shall have the power to enter, by himself or any officer authorised by him for the purpose, upon any land, and to survey, demarcate and make a map of the same and also have the powers of a Civil Court in the trial of suits related to matters of this Act. The Act also lays down the process by which the government may gain control over private forest land in the State.
