The County Public Service Board may appoint county veterinary inspectors. Abattoirs shall be approved by the county director in charge of matters relating to veterinary health. The Act provides for the appointment of a director in-charge of veterinary services, who shall be responsible for control and inspection of slaughter and processing of livestock and the registration and licensing of meat processing establishments. Every animal intended for slaughter shall be inspected before slaughter by a meat inspector. The owner or the agent of the owner in charge of any approved abattoir shall keep on the premises a register of animals presented for slaughter. The Act also provides rules concerning hygiene in meat processing operations and disposal of unfit meat and animal waste. Full text English Website www.kenyalaw.org
