Abstract This Joint Order approves the Technical Code for Building (CTE). This Code, consisting of 7 Chapters and 3 Annexes, establishes the general and specific regulations to be satisfied for projecting, building, using and maintaining buildings and infrastructures. CTE apples for the construction of new buildings, for intervention works in existing buildings and for works amending local urban and rural land use planning structure. It aims at establishing quality patterns of constructions, satisfying minimum conditions for security, comfort, hygiene and health of their users, through technical criteria, established by the Public Administration. It is divided as follows: General provision; Environment; Quality of the buildings; Security, health and comfort; Construction and demolition; Urban Infrastructures; and Duration and maintenance of buildings.
