This Interministerial Order enters into force on the day of its publication.
Abstract

This Interministerial Order establishes the guidelines to Promote Healthy Food in the Infant, Mandatory and Middle Level public and private schools nationwide. The guidelines aim at favoring the development of actions that promote and guarantee the adoption of healthier eating practices in the school environment. They recognize that healthy eating must be understood as human right, understanding an adequate eating pattern for the biological, social and cultural needs of individuals, according to the phases of the life course and based on food practices linked to socio-cultural aspects. In addition, they define the promotion of healthy food in schools based on the following priority criteria: I - Food and nutritional education; II - production of school meals to carry out activities; III - implementation of good food handling practices in production and supply locations of food services in the school environment; IV - restriction on trade and commercial promotion of preparations with high levels of saturated fat, fat, free sugar and salt and incentive the consumption of fruit, legumes and vegetables; and V - monitoring the nutritional situation of schoolchildren.
