Abstract

This Norm, consisting of 14 articles divided into four Chapters and four Annexes, provides criteria and standards for the exploitation of native or exotic freshwater fish for ornamental and aquarium purposes. It decides that capture, transport and sale of alive fish species listed in Annex I of this Interministerial Normative Instruction is allowed. Alive native species not listed in Annex I of this are prohibited from any exploitation for ornamental and aquarium purposes, except those whose species have specific regulations that allow the use for such purposes. The Norm is divided as follows: Capture and Exploitation (Chap. II); Transport (Chap. III). Annexes deal with the List of authorized and prohibited ornamental fish species and model form to import/export these fish species. The contents of Annexes I and IV may be periodically reviewed and republished by the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA). The transport, export or import of fish species which are or will be included in the Appendices of CITES, are subject to special authorization procedures established by the IBAMA.
