Abstract

This document lays down the Nationally Determined Contribution submitted by the European Union in the framework of the Paris Agreement and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, in order to achieve an at least 40% domestic reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 1990 levels by 2030. This translates the agreement by EU Heads of State and Government in october 2014 on the EU 2030 climate and energy framework. The EU's intended contribution puts the EU on a cost-effective pathway towards long term domestic emission reductions of 80%.
