Abstract

This Act establishes the Institute of Marine Affairs. The establishment of the Institute is based upon an Agreement between U.N. Agencies, other international organizations, and the Government of Trinidad of 6 May 1963 a plan of operation signed by UNDP and Trinidad on various dates in June 1974. The objects of the Institute include: (a) to develop and implement programmes and projects to implement the marine and related policies of the Government; (b) to develop and execute programmes and projects that foster and encourage regional and international collaboration in the exploitation of the marine and other related areas of the environment; and (c) to promote the utilization and conservation of the marine resources for the economic and social benefit of Trinidad and Tobago and to enhance the national capabilities.
