The Regulations provide for the location of the Registration Office and allows for a branch to be maintained. Additional functions of the Registration Office include; (a) receiving of any application, notice or other document filed or lodged with the Registration Office pursuant to the Act or these regulations; (b) research into any matter relating to or connected with industrial property; (c) public awareness and promotion of the benefits of industrial property rights; (d) training persons in the field of industrial property rights; (e) promoting competition among inventors and creators of industrial property; (f) where appropriate, giving of awards for innovations; (g) public education and advocacy; and (h) coordination of national industrial property initiatives. The Regulations also provide for the continuance and maintenance of Registers and the manner of inspection of files and documents lodged with the Registration Office. The Registrar is to maintain a bulletin of industrial property in print or electronic format. Furthermore, the Regulations make general provisions with regards to applications, like the fees to be paid, the forms, issues of power of attorney, among others. These general provisions also apply in specific terms to patents, industrial designs, trade marks, collective and certification marks.
