Abstract

This standard lays down the requirements of a water utility/service provider, including the processes involved in the procurement of raw water, its treatment and distribution, the quality of the water provided and guidelines to ensure the same. It specifies the requirements for management system of drinking water supplier/utility and for the assessment of piped drinking water supply services where the water supplier/utility needs to demonstrate its ability and performance to consistently provide drinking water and aims to ensure continuous supply of piped drinking water conforming to the acceptable limit of IS 10500. It also requires water supplier/utility to determine risks, have a disaster management plan for implementation, provide and maintain the necessary infrastructure, monitor resources and conduct water audits.
