They replace general provisions of the Imported Food regulations of 1984. The Regulations apply to all imported food other than exempt products of animal origin (Reg. 2). Provisions of Regulation 4 prohibit the importation of food which fails to comply with food safety requirements. Imported food may be examined by an authorized officer of an enforcing authority. Regulation 7 provides for notification procedures for the allowing of re-export of food which appears to fail to comply with Regulation 4 or for allowing importation for other purposes than human consumption.
