The purpose of this Act is to establish a safety and security regime to protect the health and safety of the public against the risks posed by human pathogens and toxins. The regulation includes provisions respecting licensing, including the conditions that must be met for a licence to be issued, the conditions that must be complied with under a licence, the renewal, suspension and revocation of a licence and the variation of the conditions of an existing licence; provisions on Biological Safety Officers functions and qualifications; and respecting facilities in which controlled activities are authorized.
