Subject Environment gen., Wild species & ecosystems Keyword Cultural heritage Institution Special fund Geographical area Micronesia, Oceania, South Pacific Abstract This Act provides for the preservation of cultural and historic property of the Marshall Islands and for this purpose establishes: (a) within the Ministry of Internal Affairs a Historic Preservation Office; (b) the Republic of the Marshall Islands Advisory Council for Historic Preservation; and (c) the Historic Preservation Fund. The Historic Preservation Office shall, among other things: (a) be responsible for the implementation of laws of the Marshall Islands pertaining to cultural and historic preservation: (b) issue or deny permits for use, access, and development of land containing cultural and historic properties; and (c) be responsible for the identification and recording of cultural and historic properties. The Council shall act as an advisory body to the Minister and the Historic Preservation Office. The Act also provides for measures of enforcement and regulation-making powers of the Minister and defines offences.
