Abstract

This is a subsidiary legislation of the Hides and Skins Law of Enugu State. These Regulations are made by the Commissioner for Agriculture of the State to provide details for the manner of flaying of hides and skins, the manner of drying hides and skins, inspection of the process by authorized officials, the storage of hides and skins, etc. The Regulations provide against the sale of hides and skins which have not been properly dried, and that an inspector has to certify the dryness. The inspector also has the authority to enter into premises used for preparation for inspection and as well inspect hides and skins being conveyed for transportation. The Regulations further provide that premises to be used for the preparation of hides and skins must be licensed by the Chief Veterinary Officer prior to use as such. A contravention of the health and safety provisions of these Regulations invites fines and/or imprisonment.
