Abstract

These By-laws of the Harare City Council regulate slaughter of animals and sale of meat in the municipal area under the jurisdiction of the City Council of Harare. Flesh or offal of any domestic bovine, ovine, caprine, porcine or equine animal shall not be kept or offered for sale if the meat was not obtained from an abattoir (a slaughter-house approved by the Council), inspected by a State grader and passed as being sound, free from disease and fit for human consumption, and graded and marked. No person shall slaughter any livestock in the council area, other than at an abattoir. The By-laws also provide for the registration of sellers of game meat and the inspection and marking of game meat intended for sale.
