The Commission shall encourage the development and growth of forestry in Guyana on a sustainable basis. The Commission shall, among other things: develop a forestry policy; provide an inspection, certification and accreditation service for quality control of forest produce; and administer the Forests Act 2007. The Commission is responsible to the Minister for the discharge or its functions. The Commission shall from time to time appoint a person as Commissioner of Forests, who shall be the chief executive officer of the Commission. The Act also makes provision with respect to certain financial arrangement relating to the Commission.
