The Government shall constitute the Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water and Sewerage Board. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Board, entitled to provide for the following functions: supply of potable water as per CPHEEO standard, including planning, design construction, operation and management of water supply system; and sewerage, sewage disposal and sewage treatment works including planning, design, construction, operation and management of all sewerage treatment works in the Guwahati Metropolitan area; plan for, regulate and manage the exploitation of ground water in Guwahati in consultation with Central Ground Water Authority; promote measures for conservation, recycling and reuse of water; carry out any functions relating to the management and regulation of sewerage and ground water of any area; collect, treat and dispose-of sewage from any part of Guwahati and carry out works connected with sewerage, sewage treatment and disposal including planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of works relating thereto.
