Abstract

These guidelines aim to establish farming conditions that mitigate the occurrence and transmission of infections, while also advocating for the responsible and secure administration of medications. The text is crafted for easy and swift access to crucial information, focusing on three key themes: infection prevention practices, appropriate antimicrobial use practices, and recordkeeping for farm animals and veterinary products on the farm. It is strongly recommended to prioritize and encourage measures for infection prevention, such as vaccination and the enhancement of husbandry conditions, as central interventions in combating the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). When implemented effectively, infection prevention can significantly reduce, and in some cases, even eliminate the need for antimicrobial agents, which are often used as a substitute for inadequate animal husbandry practices. The text contains 4 Chapters as follow: Introduction (1); Infection Prevention practices (2); Appropriate Antimicrobial Use Practices (3); and Keeping records for animals and veterinary medical products (4).
