Abstract

This Act provides rules for the preparation, use, trade in and placing on the market of various consumer goods including food for human consumption and of drugs used for human beings and animals. Section 2 contains a list of definitions and defines the application sphere of the Act. Section 3 lists prohibited acts in relation to manufacture, sale or delivery, holding or offering for sale of any food or drug such as sale of adulterated food or drug, wrong labelling or packing, false representations or advertisement, etc. Section 9 defines “adulterated food”, whereas section 10 defines misbranded food. Section 11 prescribes rules on the importation of food or drugs. Section 12 defines “adulterated drugs”. Section 15 defines “misbranded drugs”. Section 17 contains rules regarding the sale of new drugs. Section 20 sets out labelling requirements for food, drugs and cosmetics. Other provisions of this Chapter concern advertisement, inspections, and enforcement and prescribe offences.
