Abstract

Cattle breeding is one of the strategic sectors of agriculture the development of which to a considerable extent means ensuring food security and qualitative feeding of the population, and also the public health. The purpose of the Program is to create favourable conditions for the stabilization and the development of cattle breeding in order to ensure the achievement of the following strategic targets: 1) to stop the reduction of cattle and poultry and to move to progressive increase thereof; 2) to achieve the level of animal production ensuring minimum rates of supply of the population; 3) to ensure profitable cattle breeding. Food security of the state can be guaranteed by the national animal production that is the optimum way for the Ukraine. The strategy of the development of cattle breeding envisages the following arrangements : 1) stabilization and subsequent development of cattle breeding in all types of economic entities ; 2) determination of the amount of animal products destined for export ; 3) priority development of pig breeding, poultry keeping and meat cattle breeding ; 4) rise of the productivity of cattle and poultry by strengthening fodder basis and improving the qualitative characteristics of livestock and poultry; 5) spreading of selection and animal production activity to rural areas and farms.
