Country/Territory Moldova, Republic of Document type Regulation Date 2013 Source FAO, FAOLEX Subject Agricultural & rural development, Environment gen., Water Keyword Water shortage/drought Policy/planning Monitoring Public participation Priorities Geographical area CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States), Eastern Europe, Europe, Europe and Central Asia, Landlocked Developing Nations Abstract The purpose of the Regulation on drought management planning is drought management planning, which contains provisions related to: (a) development of individual drought management plans for each basin district or sub-basin; (b) refinement of indicators to identify the circumstances of drought; (c) defining specific monitoring systems to detect signs of drought; (d) defining management objectives and mitigation measures for drought, including measures to rationalize the need for water, to establish priorities for water use, meeting basic human needs, including food, and for the protection of aquatic ecosystems; (e) public participation in the development and implementation of drought management plans, including information measures; and (f) creating water reserves in case of drought. The purpose of developing drought management plans is to ensure the development and implementation of measures to prevent, mitigate and reduce the consequences of drought. Drought management plans are developed by the central public authority for environmental protection in accordance with the requirements of this Regulation and with the involvement of the basin district committee, the public and others parties concerned.
