This Governmental Decree enters into force on the date of its official publication.
Abstract

This Governmental Decree establishes the purpose, tasks, powers, fundamentals of scientific, financial and economic activities, as well as zoning with the mode of operation of the biosphere reserve "Prutul de Jos". The reserve was included in 2018 in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves within the framework of the Man and the Biosphere (MaB) Program. The purpose of the Reserve, in accordance with the requirements of the UNESCO Program, is the preservation of physical and geographical elements and formations, plant and animal species of national and international importance, as well as conducting research in the global monitoring system, harmonization of geographical landscapes and their sustainable use for scientific, cultural, tourism and educational purposes. To achieve the intended goals and carry out the planned activities, the following tasks and goals have been established: (a) protection and conservation of biological and landscape diversity and natural habitats; (b) protection and optimization of the number of rare, catastrophically rapidly declining and endangered species of flora and fauna; (c) creation of conditions for the restoration of extinct, endangered, as well as catastrophically rapidly declining (vulnerable) species of flora and fauna through their reproduction in ex-situ conditions; (d) creation of necessary conditions for sustainable management and use of natural resources of the zone and stimulation of environmentally friendly types of economic activities; (e) cooperation within the framework of the UNESCO Program; (f) development of national programs for the implementation of the UNESCO Program; (g) creation of conditions for the preservation and development of cultural traditions and customs of the local population; (h) conducting scientific research; (i) popularization of knowledge about environmental protection, environmental education and training of the population; and (j) creation of conditions for tourism and recreation.
