Abstract This Governmental Decision validates Southern Water Management Plan for 2016-2021 and priority management measures aiming at balance of the interconnected relations of water users in the Akhuryan water basin area, including communities, energy, industry, agriculture and the environment. It also aims to assist the bodies responsible for water resources management, including the State Authorized Body for Water Resources Management in the Southern Water Basin Management Area, administrative bodies, policy makers, and the public in making decisions in the field of water resources. In order to provide the improvement of water resources in the Southern Basin Management Area by sectors, the water supply in the river basins and the water demand conditioned by economic development are forecasted for the first six-year management planning period. The projected water supply is estimated taking into account the economic development trends in the river basins, the impact of climate change on water resources, as well as the national, strategic, usable water resources of the Southern Water Basin Management Are, which are defined in Table 1. When making water demand forecasts based on economic development, different approaches are used for different water use sectors due to the specifics of the economic development of the sectors.
