Abstract This Government Regulation, consisting of 47 articles divided into nine Chapters, implements Law No. 32 of 2009 on Protection and Environmental Management, and aims at protecting and managing Peatlands ecosystems. Planning of Peatland Ecosystem Protection and Management is done through the following stages: 1. Peatland Ecosystem inventory; 2. Determination of the function of the Peat Ecosystem; and 3. Drafting and establishing the Peatland Ecosystem Protection and Management plan. The final map of Hydrological Unity Peatlands contains at least data and information on: a) location, existence and extent of the Peat Hydrological Unity; b) characteristics of physics, chemistry, biology, hydro-topographic, and types of sediments under Peat. The function of the Peat Ecosystem established by the Minister as a function of protection and cultivation function of the Peat Ecosystem as referred to in art. 9 is presented in the form of map of the function of Peat Ecosystem. In addition, Peat ecosystem with the purpose of aquaculture can be converted into Peat Ecosystem with the function of protection. Peat ecosystems that have been designated as a protected or aquaculture function are used as materials in the preparation and review of land use planning and their detailed plans. The utilization of Peat Ecosystem is carried out under the national, provincial and municipal peatlands protection and management plans as meant in art. 16.
