Abstract

The present Government Decree complements Regulation (EC) No. 999/2001 laying down rules for the prevention, control and eradication of certain transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE). It lays down provisions aimed at preventing the spread of BSE in cattle and at eradicating the disease in confirmed cases of infection. It also lays down provisions for the epidemiological surveillance of BSE in bovine animals. It does not apply to the disposal of bovine by-products nor to measures in slaughterhouses when it has been decided that cattle sent for slaughter shall be examined for BSE.
