The Ministry of Environment is the central sectoral body of public administration, which ensures the implementation of state policy in the areas of activity entrusted thereto. The Ministry performs the functions established by this Regulation in the following areas: (a) environmental protection; (b) climate change; and (c) sustainable management of natural resources. The main functions of the Ministry are: (a) development of ex ante analysis of policy documents, draft regulations in areas within its competence, in collaboration with relevant representatives of civil society, scientific and business communities; (b) cooperation in accordance with national legislation with foreign specialized organizations in areas within its competence; (c) monitoring the assessment and position of the Republic of Moldova within the framework of international indicators and rankings that relate to its specific areas, and developing proposals for their improvement; (d) monitoring the perception of citizens, civil society, academics and economic agents of public policies, regulations and government activities in ministry-specific areas of activity and developing proposals for their improvement; (e) monitoring the quality of public policies and regulations in areas of activity specific to the ministry, including in cooperation with civil society, academia and the private sector; and (f) implementation of regulations and implementation of international treaties of the Republic of Moldova in the areas within its competence, drawing up reports on their implementation.
