This Act enters into force immediately.
Abstract

This Act aims to prohibit cow slaughtering in the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. It establishes that no person shall slaughter or cause to be slaughtered or offer or cause to be offered for slaughter any cow in the Union territory of Goa, Daman and Diu. It specifies that killing a cow by accident or in self defense will not be considered as slaughter. These are some exceptions as follows: It will not be considered as cow slaughtering if the animal: a) is suffering as to render its destruction desirable according to the certificate of the Veterinary Officer of the area or such other Officer of the Animal Husbandry Department as may be prescribed; b) is suffering from any contagious or infectious disease notified as such by the Government; or c) is subjected to experimentation in the interest of medical and public health research by a certified medical practitioner of the Animal Husbandry Department. Illegal activities will be punished with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years or with fine which may extend to one thousand rupees or with both.
