Abstract

Under the leadership of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and with support from the United States In-Country Support Program, the Government of Ghana has prepared this National Adaptation Plan Framework to guide and advance its National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to address medium- and long-term adaptation needs in a coherent and coordinated manner. The purpose of this document is to provide an overall framework to guide the country in developing, coordinating and implementing its NAP process. This framework serves to describe the benefits of the NAP process in the context of Ghana. Specifically, the objectives of this NAP Framework are to: clarify the country’s approach to its NAP process; align the NAP process with existing policies, strategies, programs and adaptation research; serve as a basis for stakeholder engagement. Climate change affects different sectors and communities differently. Thus, the framework highlights the need to ensure greater, meaningful participation by different stakeholders and socioeconomic groups, including youth and women. This will ensure a greater buy-in and ownership for the NAP process by relevant stakeholders.
