Entry into force notes
These rules shall come into force on the date on which the Act comes into force.
Abstract

These Rules, consisting of 116 sections divided into eight Chapters and completed by five Schedules, specify all the necessary requirements and procedures to be met in order to register the geographical indication of goods. In particular, they specify foodstuff requirements and follow the below mentioned criteria: Principal place of business in India; Appropriate office of the Geographical Indications Registry; Necessary documents to be submitted; Issue of notices; Fees; Address for service in application and opposition proceedings; Classification of goods; Certified copies of documents; Intellectual Property; Model Forms; Application for registration as a geographical indications agent, etc.
