Abstract

This Act makes provision for the registration and protection of geographical indications, i.e. indication which identifies a good as originating in the territory of a country, or a region or locality in that territory, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to its geographical origin. Protection can be obtained by way of civil proceedings at court. An application for the registration of a geographical indication shall be filed with the Controller of the Intellectual Property Office.
