Entry into force notes
The present Act enters into force on 1 January 1995, except for article I, Part V on Genetic Technology Commission.
Abstract

A piece of basic legislation regulating the handling of and bringing into circulation genetically modified organisms, and the use of genetic analysis and genetic therapy for human beings. The aim of this Act is to protect human beings and the environment from harmful effects of genetically manipulated organisms in order to grant a high degree of safety. The text consists of 111 articles divided into 12 Parts as follows: General provisions (I); Works on genetically manipulated organisms in closed systems (II); Spreading of genetically manipulated organisms and marketing of such products (III); Genetic analysis and genetic therapy used for human beings (IV); Genetic Technology Commission and Genetic Technology Regulations (V); Competent authorities and controls (VI); Study on safety (VII); Provisional coercive measures (VIII); Expiry of entitlements; (IX); Confidentiality of data and data handling (X); International exchange of information (XI); Transitional, penal and final provisions (XII). Two Annexes are enclosed.
