The Act regulates the use of certain techniques and the release of GMOs into the environment. Under the Act, dealings with GMOs must be licensed and the licensing system is set out under Part 5. Part 6 provides for the creation and operation of a GMO register; Part 7 for certification and Part 8 concerns the creation and operation of the Gene Technology Technical Advisory Committee, the Gene Technology Community Consultative Committee and the Gene Technology Ethics Committee.
