Abstract The Forestry Agency is established within the administration of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. As far as matters of environment protection and nature conservation are concerned, the Agency will report to the Ministry of Environment (sect. 1). The Agency shall in general take all possible measures to protect natural resources and biodiversity and shall in particular carry out all tasks entrusted to it by various laws including the Fisheries Act (286/82), the Act regulating hunting (615/93) and the Water Act (264/61) (sect. 2). The Agency holds in property national reserves and other public areas (sect. 6). The Agency shall be led by a Board of Directors (sect. 11). Section 11 regulates the transfer of rights and obligations from the old Agency to the Agency established under the present Act.
