Abstract

This Ordinance makes provision for the safety of live bivalve molluscs and other shellfish (i.e. echinoderms, tunicates and marine gastropods) produced in, imported and/or placed on the market of Guernsey. The Ordinance, among other things, provides for the designation by the States of designated shellfish waters, i.e. coastal and brackish waters which, in its opinion, need protection or improvement in order to support shellfish life and growth. The States shall also designate sea waters and brackish waters from which live bivalve molluscs and other shellfish shall be taken in accordance with the requirements of this Ordinance. The Ordinance provides for the approval of dispatch centres and purification centres.
