Abstract

These Regulations provide for the control of food business operators with respect to hygienic conditions in the production and placing on the market of food. They appoint the Food Standards Agency as the competent authority for the purposes of specified Community Regulations and make provision for the enforcement and execution of these Regulations and of the Community Regulations. Hygiene enforcement orders may be imposed on food business operators. They include: (a) hygiene improvement notices; (b) hygiene prohibition orders; (c) hygiene emergency prohibition notices and orders; and (d) remedial action notices and detention notices. The Regulations further prescribe offences and specify more powers of authorized officers of an enforcement authority. In the Schedules, the Regulations prescribe requirements with respect to bulk transport in seagoing vessels of liquid oils or fats and the bulk transport by sea of raw sugar, temperature control and direct supply by the producer of small quantities of meat from poultry and lagomorphs slaughtered on the farm and they impose restrictions on the sale of raw milk intended for direct human consumption.
