These Regulations shall enter into force on 1 March 2010.
Abstract

These Regulations, consisting of 9 sections and two Schedules, regulate the use of antioxidants in food. The Regulations prohibit: the import, use or advertisement of any antioxidants other than antioxidants specified in Schedule I in food for human consumption; manufacture, import, sale, offer for sale, storage, distribution, transportation, use or advertisement of any food, which contains any antioxidant except as provided for in these Regulations. Any food specified in Column II of Schedule I may have antioxidants specified in proportion corresponding to related Column. No food intended for infants and young children shall have any antioxidants or a combination as specified in items 1, 2 and 3 of Column I of Schedule I. The Regulations shall be assessed for conformity assessment procedures and guidelines laid down by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution. No exporter shall export items covered under this regulation unless a Certificate of Clearance has been granted to do so, by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution. Any specified food in relation to which two or more permitted antioxidants are specified in Schedule I, may have a combination of such antioxidants only if the total of those percentages does not exceed the maximum quantity, as specified in the Schedule.
