Abstract

Act consists of 54 sections divided into 7 Parts: Preliminary (I); General Provisions as to Food and Drugs (Composition of Food and Drugs; The Regulations as to Food; Unsound Food; Precautions against Contamination of Food; Food Poisoning) (II); Provisions as to Milk, Dairies and Artificial Cream (III); Provisions as to Other Kinds of Food (IV); Administration (V); Legal Proceedings and Penalties (VI); Slaughterhouse and Knacker’s Yard (VII). The Minister may designate under section 3 authorized officers for the purposes of this Act. Sections 4 and 5 of Part II provide with respect to composition of food and drugs. Sections 8 and 9 regulate labelling of food. The Minister may make such Regulations as appear to him to be expedient for securing the observance of sanitary and cleanly conditions and practices in connection with: (a) the sale of food for human consumption, or (b) the importation, exportation, preparation, transport, storage, packaging, wrapping, exposure for sale, service or delivery of food intended for sale or sold for human consumption, or otherwise for the protection of the public health in connection with food matters. Section 12 prohibits the sale, etc. of unsound food. Sections 16 to 19 concern precautions against contamination of food.
