Abstract

This Subpart of Part 679 of Title 50 of the Federal Code of Regulations contains general provisions relative to fisheries in the Exclusive Economic Zone off Alaska. It defines the purpose and scope of Part 679, gives definitions, define the relation to other laws, provides with respect to authorization of fisheries (including regulatory requirements for purposes of fishing restrictions in habitat conservation areas, habitat conservation zones, habitat protection areas), allocation quotas, landing, recordkeeping and reporting, defines exempted fisheries, and defines various prohibitions. Regulations in this part were developed by the Council under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, 16 U.S.C. 1801 et seq. (Magnuson-Stevens Act) and the Northern Pacific Halibut Act of 1982 (Halibut Act). Along with part 600 of this chapter, these regulations implement various fisheries management and observer programs and fisheries measures.
