Abstract

This Chapter of Division 4 of the Fish and Game Code of California declares that bighorn sheep are an important wildlife resource of the state to be managed and maintained at sound biological levels. It shall be the policy of the State of California to encourage the preservation, restoration, utilization, and management of California’s bighorn sheep population. The Department of Fish and Game shall determine the status and the trend of bighorn sheep populations by management units. A plan shall be developed for each of the management units. The Fish and Game Commission may adopt all regulations necessary to provide for biologically sound management of Nelson bighorn sheep. It may authorize sport hunting of mature Nelson bighorn rams.
