Abstract

This Chapter of Division 6 of the Fish and Game Code of California known as Nearshore Fisheries Management Act places restrictions on commercial and recreational fisheries of rockfish (genus Sebastes), California sheephead (genus Semicossyphus), kelp greenling (genus Hexagrammos), cabezon (genus Scorpaenichthys), scorpionfish (genus Scorpaena) and other species of finfish found primarily in rocky reef or kelp habitat in nearshore waters ("species of nearshore finfish stocks"), in the nearshore state waters extending from the shore to one nautical mile offshore the California coast. Fishing for species of nearshore finfish stocks for commercial purposes requires a valid nearshore fishery permit. The Fish and Game Commission may adopt Regulations as it determines necessary, based on the advice and recommendations of the Department of Fish and Game, to regulate nearshore fish stocks and fisheries.
