Abstract This Act lays down rules for a) promoting the interests of the consumers; (b) promoting effective and efficient development of industry, trade or commerce; (c) promoting effective competition in industry, trade or commerce; and (d) ensuring equitable returns for businesses with fair and reasonable prices charged to consumers. To this end, this Act sets forth provisions on the establishment, duties and powers of the Competition and Consumer Commission; access agreements, dispute settlement; control over price; restrictive trade practices; consumer protection against unfair practices; misleading activities in relation to goods including animals, fish, trees and crops, gas and electricity, and any component part of goods; and offences and penalties.
