Abstract The purpose of this Federal Act is to define the requirements for practicing the veterinary profession in Austria on a freelance basis or in an employment relationship, and the conditions that veterinarians must comply with in the exercise of their profession. This Federal Act does not affect: the powers of doctors; activities in the field of scientific and didactic research as well as in state research institutes; other persons authorized for ante-mortem meat inspection and for artificial insemination of domestic animals; activities regulated by commercial legislation; the power to conduct animal experiments.
