The headings of Parts II and III now read: "Elephants and Buffaloes" (Part II); and "Vertebrates and Invertebrates" (Part III). Further amendments are made to several sections concerning inter alia: (a) the control and management of national reserves; (b) the protection of elephants and buffaloes in areas outside national reserves and sanctuaries; (c) the capture and keeping of protected animals; (d) offences and penalties (in particular, Sections 31A and 31B are inserted, on offences relating to amphibians and fish included in Schedules III and IV of the Act); (e) prohibitions on the import or export of protected animals without permits; (f) protection of plants; (g) powers of the officers of the Department of Wildlife Conservation or police officers in respect of unlicensed guns.
