Abstract

These Regulations, for the purpose of giving further effect to Council Regulation 1143/2014, and to protect Ireland from alien invasive species of crayfish (any live specimen of a species of crayfish listed in Schedule 1 of these Regulations): designate the competent authority in the State for the purposes of these Regulations and the EU Regulation; give power to the Minister Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht or the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine to appoint authorised officers; define functions of authorised officers, and; define offences. The competent authority shall carry out the official controls in accordance with Article 15 of the EU Regulation. The Minister shall apply or secure the application of eradication measures in case of appearance in the State of an invasive alien species of crayfish. The Regulations also specify a derogation from rapid eradication measures.
