These Regulations implement Council Directive 97/78/EC laying down the principles governing the organization of veterinary checks on products entering the European Community from third countries. They require the presentation of such products at an approved border inspection post for the purpose of official checking. They also provide for the appointment of authorised officers to implement the Regulations and for the prosecution of offences. "Product" means a product to which the Directive applies, other than fish and fishery products
