Abstract

These Regulations implement the provisions of Article 100 and 101 of the Treaty relating to the accession of Ireland to the European Economic Community which authorize the State to restrict fishing by vessels of other Member States in certain areas within the exclusive fishery limits of the State. Fishing by the fishing vessels of other Member States in the exclusive fishery limits of the State shall be a contravention of the statutory prohibition except in the following cases : (a) fishing in so much of the portion of the exclusive fishery limits of the State specified in Part I of the Schedule to these Regulations as lies outside a line every point of which is at a distance of six nautical miles from the nearest point of the baseline; (b) fishing, not being fishing for crustaceans or molluscs , in so much of the portion of those limits specified in Part II of that Schedule as lies outside a line every point of which is at a distance of six nautical miles from the nearest point of the baseline; and (c) specified fishing as defined in regulation 2.
